Avram Iancu Street

The following photos show the view of Avram Iancu street which is very close to the Big Square. As you can see the hanging lamp posts are forming a somewhat straight line over the street and it looks like they are joining the houses from both sides of the street. Trees can be seen on both sides of the street, the ones on the right being taller. The Romanian flag is also present.

The last photo shows the view from the Avram Iancu street toward the Big Square. You can see the Council Tower in the background and a car wanting to leave the parking lot. It looks as if the street is very silent and not at all busy but it also has a clean view.

Pigeons on a House in the Big Square

A walk through the Big Square is not complete without laying the eye on the numerous pigeons that consider it their personal home and which can be found in different places such as in the middle of the square, on buildings or in the air. The following photos show you some of the pigeons standing on the roof of a building and watching everything around them with great care. At the approach of someone they started flying in the air only to return on the same building a few moments later. The photos are a bit dark since it was between day and night but still distinguishable.

A Strange Balcony

On Nicolae Balcescu Boulevard you can see a lot of eyes on the roofs of the houses that seem to be spying on the pedestrians, watching their every move or maybe they are just some lonely faces wanting to be in the limelight.

On the same boulevard there is also a strange balcony. I think it is the only balcony that can be seen there and what is strange about it is that the house on which it is has a multitude of windows and floors which could have easily had a balcony each but instead we are presented with only one overlooking the pedestrians. The people who built it and the first owners of the house would have probably wanted to compete with the eyes of the rest of the houses in overlooking the pedestrians walking down the boulevard while being on the balcony and sipping their morning coffee. Did they reach their goal? Only they can tell us...

Donuterie and Little Red Riding Hood (Scufita Rosie) Stores on Nicolae Balcescu Boulevard

I continue the last post by showing you more green houses from the same boulevard, i.e. Nicolae Balcescu Boulevard. These houses are not as tall as the previous one but what is special about them is that they provide a place where you can buy tasty specialties like doughnuts and pastry.

Of course that after walking down the boulevard and admiring the old and enchanting houses one can't help but get hungry and who else is can come to the rescue but Little Red Riding Hood with all her delicious pastries. And it is a common belief that everybody likes donuts and why not stop by the Donuterie shop to savor a delicious doughnut that you can only find there. As always, the two eyes from the roof of the house are like a witness or a detective that watches your every move as you want to take advantage of your sweetness escapade.

A Glimpse of a Green House on Nicolae Balcescu Boulevard

Being on the Nicolae Balcescu Boulevard and on my way to the Big Square I couldn't help but photograph the green house that lay in front of me, or in this case on the right side of the boulevard.

As you can see it is an old house with two floors and an attic. At the ground floor there are some big shop windows and on the right there is a Travel Agency named Trans Europa and on the left side there is a small clothing shop named Etnica. Of course it has an interior courtyard and the entrance to it is in the middle of the ground floor. There are two floors which are probably lived by families and an attic which also has a room with a view.

I think it looked really great during his most glorious years of existence, i.e. after it was built. The green colour would have probably been brighter and the exterior not so deteriorated. Some of the window blinds have been removed but this does not affect its altogether charm. When I took the picture I felt like someone was watching me from behind the curtains of the window from the attic. It took me back to those movies in which the ghost guardians of old houses were making their presence be noticed so that the outsiders would not disturb their well established peace and tranquility from over their long period of existence. It most certainly gives out the impression of being a house full of character and grandeur judging by the fact that it is one of the tallest houses in the area.

Pension "Casa (House) Frieda"

In the next photos I will present you with another restaurant on the Nicolae Balcescu Boulevard, "Casa (House) Frieda" Restaurant. It did not have a terrace in front of it like the "Bufnita" (Owl) Restaurant has. What I liked about the restaurant and the pension was the building in which it functions. The colour and the window bas-relief make it more interesting and pleasant to the eye. Between the windows there are two flower pots which give a clue about its grandeur from the old days. Surely, time has taken its toll on it as you can probably see from the altered walls which are waiting to be fixed and restored to its previous state. The roof of the building is interesting in its own way, as well. To me it looks like an old face that has gone through a lot and contemplates the times that have passed probably too fast for it to handle. The two small windows are like eyes trying to see and understand what is happening around it, and the arch in the middle looks like the nose of a face trying to breath in the reality.

“La Bufnita”(The Owl) Restaurant Building in Winter Time

I photographed the “La Bufnita”(The Owl) Restaurant Building which can be found on the Nicolae Balcescu Boulevard. As you can see, its street sign is really noticeable and it mingles very easily with the whole atmosphere of the boulevard especially in this time of year. The see-through curtains that enclose the terrace are no match for the winter low temperature so most of the people that wanted to indulge into the restaurant specialties found refuge inside the building itself, a perfect atmosphere to be in during the harsh winter weather. Even thought the snow started to melt the temperature proved that it was better to be inside.
